Position Snapshot
Join our team as the Distance Education and Instructional Design
Coordinator, where you'll play a key role in shaping the future of
online learning. You'll partner with faculty to design engaging
online courses, develop helpful learning resources, and fine-tune
courses for optimal delivery. From customizing courses to meet the
needs of both students and instructors, to leading training and
support for our course management system, you'll be at the
forefront of digital education. Plus, you'll provide valuable
leadership to the digital learning team as we create innovative and
effective learning experiences.
Key Duties
Analyze existing materials and assess the needs of learners and
learning events.
Create learning experiences by design learning activities,
assignments, and assessments, apply instructional design theories
and methods.
Develop online learning through the creation of computer-based
training (CBT) modules and storyboards, utilize and train on
multimedia tools to enhance the learning process.
Train instructors, students, and employees on how to use learning
technologies.
Collaborate across departments, by partnering with subject matter
experts, HR, IR, and IT; work with campus accreditation teams and
the Accreditation Liaison Officer to prepare and to respond to
accreditation requirements related to distance learning.
Design assessments and create evaluation methods to measure learner
progress.
Manage projects and organize course documents.
Stay current with best practices in instructional design.
Troubleshoot technical challenges by working with technical staff
to resolve user issues.
Analyze software needs and vendor products related to instructional
design and distance education, make recommendations.
Develop and manage necessary reports to ensure that digital
learning initiates are supporting student success.
Lead the distance learning faculty-staff committee, participate in
additional campus committee work where appropriate.
Work with faculty individually to improve online, hybrid, and
web-enhanced learning environments.
Directly lead, supervise and manage the work of staff members in a
distance learning environment.
Ensure that the distance learning team maintains a student success
focus, while improving access and retention.
Evaluate teaching and learning materials to maintain compliance
with accessibility standards.
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or
directed by the supervisor.
Ability to
Integrate resources, policies, and information to develop
procedures, solutions, and other outcomes;
Multitask and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment;
Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff of varying
technological skill levels and personalities;
Stay organized, detail-oriented, and productive while understanding
organizational policies and activities;
Match the right course management tools with instructor
resources;
Assist instructors in locating or creating engaging and
pedagogically sound course materials;
Stay current with emerging technologies; communicate clearly and
effectively in English;
Follow and provide both oral and written instructions; demonstrate
sensitivity and respect for a diverse population.
Knowledge of
Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional
field, curriculum development and assessment of student learning
outcomes.
Research based practices for teaching adult learners and successful
strategies to help faculty improve student success and retention in
online courses.
Extensive experience teaching in an online environment.
Extensive experience using Learning Management System(s) in the
delivery of online instruction.
Online course review and program evaluation approaches to support
successful outcomes.
Assisting faculty with creating new and revised courses that
reflect effective and equitable teaching and assessment
strategies.
Knowledge of and commitment to equity-minded and culturally
responsive teaching strategies and practices that enhance student
success.
District, state and federal policies and procedures related to
distance education, FERPA (student privacy), Section 508
accessibility, Title 5 regulations, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in education, business or related field, and
Bachelor's Degree in instructional design, instructional
technology, online education or related field;
3+ years of experience in instructional design;
2+ years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse
academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability
backgrounds of community college students and employees.
Desirable Qualifications
Master's Degree in instructional design, educational technology or
related field;
5+ years of direct experience in instructional design;
5+ years of supervisor experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
Ability to work at a desk, a conference table or in meetings of
various configurations.
Ability to see for purposes of reading laws, codes, rules,
policies, other printed material and observing students.
Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand
a normal conversation.
Ability to reach in all directions.
Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.

This position is a grade 12 on the management salary schedule, with
a range of $86,703-$99,413 annually.
