Title: Wellness Center Coordinator

Salary Schedule Range: 40

Purpose of Position: To manage and coordinate all aspects of the Wellness Center including the daily operations of student and family support services and education for the purpose of increasing access and knowledge surrounding mental health and wellness services available on the campus and in the larger Santa Barbara community.

Reporting: Dean of Student Engagement

Location: Wellness Center at a School Site

Hours per day/ Months per year: 8 hours per day / 9 months per year

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the Wellness Center for drop-in support, short-term solution based counseling appointments, check-ins for therapist and community provider appointments, peer wellness program management, lunch time wellness activities.
  • Provide drop in support for students as needed, referral based short-term solution based counseling, and triage appropriate level of care and refer to more intensive support, outside agencies, and community social services as needed.
  • Plan and implement Site-based wellness campaigns that include campus marketing, lunchtime activities, classroom resources, and peer wellness leader participation.
  • Marketing on campus and via school approved digital communications of Wellness Center resources.
  • Provide teachers SEL classroom based lessons and resources that are aligned with the Habits of Heart.
  • Family and parent outreach regarding Wellness Center resources and education.
  • Referrals and linkages to community mental health resources via school referral system.
  • Maintaining wellness pantry - purchasing items, keep stocked, oversee distribution of items, and maintain data.
  • Record and maintain data of all wellness center visits, services provided and referrals
  • Inventories, orders, received and distributes necessary center materials, supplies and equipment
  • Build a Wellness Peer mentor program by promoting, recruiting, training, and mentoring a cadre of Wellness Peers who will help facilitate monthly wellness campaigns.
  • Attend counselor and site therapist meetings weekly closely communicating case load and level of care being provided.
  • Report to the Dean of Student Engagement. Meet with Dean weekly communicating case load and level of care being provided.
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
  • Establish good rapport with students, parents and staff.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Deliver structured curriculum to small groups or classrooms focused on: (1) Wellness promotion and education (2) Mental health literacy (3) Life skills (e.g., stress management, time management, problem-solving)
  • Supporting youth in completing behavioral health screenings (e.g., answer questions, hand-off screenings to behavioral health professionals)
  • Coordinating and supporting universal screening programs in schools or other community-based organizations per SAMHSA guidelines under thedirection of qualified professionals
  • Identifying and referring behavioral health needs of youth to behavioral health providers in school or broader organization setting
  • Care coordination and extension, such as: (1) Connecting individuals to internal and external behavioral health resources as needed; (2) Facilitating communication with other professionals providing support and care to children and youth, including connecting individuals to licensed providers so all care team members work together and operate at the top of their license or certification; (3) Providing additional support to providers, caregivers, school, or broader organization personnel, including behavioral health-related administrative activities and extension of non-clinical or clinical behavioral health support
  • Providing brief check-ins and scheduled meetings to individuals that provide emotional support and/or follow manualized curriculum that enhances wellness,such as: (1) Wellness education (e.g., basics of behavioral health symptoms, nutrition,and exercise in relation to behavioral health) (2) Goal setting/planning (e.g., increasing movement, sleep hygiene) (3) Life skills (e.g., stress management, time management, problem-solving)
  • Delivering structured curriculum to small groups to enhance wellness and life skills, such as: (1) Social-emotional skills, stress management, time management,organization, problem-solving
  • Crisis referral, which includes: (1) Using a standardized protocol, respond to signs of crisis in the school or broader organization setting (2) Identifying potential risks and referring to the on-site behavioral health provider (3) Providing emotional support and engaging in warm handoffs with on-site behavioral health providers for youth that are waiting to be seen for crisis services
    Other Functions:

    Perform related duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

    Inside work with no exposure to weather conditions, some outside work with exposure to weather conditions; minimal travel between site and community organizations.

    Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; kneeling or bending at the waist to assist students.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Knowledge of mental health and social-emotional issues, ability to identify warning signs, and ability to discern levels of triage and care for youth.

    Ability to deliver mental health and social emotional curriculum relevant to youth.

    Ability to communicate effectively with adolescents, site administrators, families, and representatives from community agencies.

    Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with school site staff, District staff, students, families, and community and agency representatives.

    Ability to use appropriate telephone and e-mail etiquette.

    Ability to use appropriate English grammar, spelling, punctuation and business vocabulary.

    Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.

    Ability to meet schedules and timelines.

    Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals and community organizations.

    Education, Training and Experience:

    Any combination of education, training or related experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Typically this would be acquired through: an Associate's degree or higher in Sociology or Psychology, and two years experience working with adolescents and/or in the mental health field. A strong interest in working with children and youth, families, and staff is desirable. An interest in pursuing a career dedicated to supporting youth and mental health is desirable. It is desirable for the employee to be bilingual in Spanish.

    *This position is eligible for language premium pay.
